Beyond the Letter
A study of what makes a good case conference, and the value it delivers.
Distance from specialist care is part of the question, so we especially want to hear from GPs in rural and remote practice. GPs in metropolitan practice are just as welcome.
The question
What we want to understand
Case conferences are Medicare-funded and well established. This study looks at what makes a good one, and what it gives you that a referral letter doesn’t.
What makes a useful plan
Which elements of a case conference produce a robust, useful plan.
What each side needs
What the GP needs to hear and what the specialist needs to know, compared with what referral letters carry.
What distance changes
How the value of a conference changes with distance from specialist care.
Participation
What participation involves
You case conference your complex patients, Medicare-funded as normal. You convene and lead each conference; Conference.care makes it easy to run. On top of that, the study asks for three things.
You’ll be paid for your time.

- A short questionnaire
- An interview or a small-group discussion
- Permission to analyse your de-identified case conference records
