Continuing professional development

Every case conference is CPD.
Here is where yours goes.

A case conference is a structured, reflective discussion of a real patient with other clinicians. Every college and registration board in Australia recognises that kind of activity. What differs is the name it goes under and how much of your year it can fill.

Doctors

What each medical college requires per year

In each ring below, the dark segment is the share of your CPD a case conference can count toward.

RACGP
  • Educational activities 12.5 h
  • Measuring outcomes 5 h
  • Reviewing performance up to 32.5 h
Where it goes
Reviewing performance — case-based discussion.
ACRRM
  • Educational activities 12.5 h
  • Outcome measurement 5 h
  • Performance review up to 32.5 h
Where it goes
Performance review — case based discussion (peer review).
RACP
  • Educational activities 12.5 h
  • Measuring outcomes 5 h
  • Reviewing performance up to 32.5 h
Where it goes
Category 2, Reviewing performance — peer review of cases.

Allied health and nursing

What each allied health body requires per year

In each ring below, the dark segment is the share of your CPD a case conference can count toward.

Occupational therapy20 hours a year
  • Any CPD relevant to your practice 20 h
Where it goes
No category minimums. Same test: relevant to your practice, recorded with a reflection. The Board favours a mix of interactive and self-directed learning; a conference is the interactive kind.
Podiatry20 hours a year
  • Interactive with other practitioners min 5 h
  • Any CPD relevant to your practice 15 h
Where it goes
All of it. The Board asks for at least five hours in an interactive setting with other practitioners and says videoconferencing counts — a conference is exactly that, and the rest of the year has no category rule.
Psychology30 hours a year
  • Peer consultation min 10 h
  • Other CPD 20 h
Where it goes
Each hour is logged once, in one of the two buckets. Your first ten conference hours go in as peer consultation — the Board defines it as supervision and consultation in individual or group format, for the purposes of professional development and support in the practice of psychology, with a reflective focus on your own practice, which a conference about your own patient is. Any conference hours after that go in as other CPD, which carries no category rule. The Board consulted on a revised standard in 2026; check the current version.
Dietetics (APD)30 hours a year
  • Professional competence min 10 h
  • Any relevant CPD 20 h
Where it goes
All of it. 30 hours a year with at least 10 on professional competence — a conference reviewing your own patient’s management is professional-competence territory, and the rest carries no category rule.
Speech pathology (CPSP)20 hours a year
  • Cultural learning min 2 h
  • Professional support min 2 h
  • Other learning 16 h
Where it goes
Code O, other learning — and Code S where a colleague in the conference supports your own practice. You determine the hours yourself. The two cultural-learning hours come from elsewhere.
Social work (AASW)30 hours a year
  • Supervision received 10 h
  • Skills & knowledge 15 h
  • Professional identity 5 h
Where it goes
Category 2, skills and knowledge as structured, interactive learning about a case; Category 3 where you present the social-work perspective to the team. Accredited Mental Health Social Workers put 10 of their hours on focussed psychological strategies.

How to log CPD in Conference.care

The record writes itself while you talk

  1. 1

    Attend

The room records your minutes as you, signed in. Time is measured, not estimated — a two-minute look from your phone earns nothing.

  2. 2

    Reflect

Three prompts, saved against the conference: What? So what? Now what? For an outcomes claim, the improvement you made, its expected impact, and how you will monitor it.

  3. 3

    Get your statement

A Statement of Participation as a PDF, issued to the coordinating GP: date, duration, reflections, a reference number and a public verification page an auditor can check. Everyone else’s evidence is the conference record itself.

  4. 4

    File it

Enter the hours and category in your CPD home and attach the statement. The table below says which category, body by body.
